Testing Details
The ABO and Rh blood type test determines both your ABO group (A, B, AB, or O) and whether you are Rh-positive or Rh-negative. This information is critical for safe blood transfusions, pregnancy management, organ transplants, and emergency care.
Doctors commonly use this test to:
– Ensure blood type compatibility before transfusions
– Prevent Rh incompatibility during pregnancy
– Match blood types for organ transplantation
– Maintain proper records for emergency situations
Your results will indicate one of eight blood types: A+, A-, B+, B-, AB+, AB-, O+, or O-. Knowing your blood type helps ensure you receive the correct care during medical procedures.
This test requires one tube of whole blood (EDTA pink-top). No fasting is necessary. Results are available within 3 business days through our secure patient portal.
Testing is performed by Quest Diagnostics at nationwide Patient Service Centers. Ideal for patients without insurance, those on high-deductible plans, or anyone wanting to confirm their blood type for peace of mind.
